The Reds’ bid for Adama Traore has been thwarted by an old foe.
Barcelona midfielder Adama Traore will not be heading to Liverpool and will in fact be joining one of the Reds’ bitter Premier League rivals.
According to the Spanish newspaper AS, Aston Villa have swooped in and secured the transfer for the 19-year-old winger. The Metro reports that Aston Villa have agreed to pay a £4.2 million transfer fee to the La Liga giants.
Liverpool were believed to be the frontrunners for Traore, with the winger reportedly believing that he was already bound for Anfield. Stoke City were also believed to be in the running for the young winger.
Adama Traore has been a starter at Barcelone B over the past two seasons with four starts with the main club in that span. Traore also has 8 goals for Barcelona B but none in La Liga.
The Reds have a frustrating recent history with Aston Villa, suffering their first home loss of the 2014-15 season to the Villans in Week 4 and suffering elimination from the FA Cup tournament at their hands in the Semi-Finals that season.
Liverpool managed to get a measure of revenge on the club that beat them by buying out Aston Villa’s invaluable scoring machine Christian Benteke.
