Liverpool defender Daniel Agger has been linked with a surprise return to his former club Brondby, who could rival Barcelona for his signature this summer, according to the Daily Mail.
The Danish international started his career at Brondby before moving to Liverpool in 2006 and becoming a key player at Anfield. However, he now looks likely to be on the move this summer after falling out of favour with manager Brendan Rodgers.
The Reds have brought in Dejan Lovren from Southampton for a fee of £20m, suggesting that he will likely be first choice at the back this season, with the likes of Martin Skrtel and Mamadou Sakho also competing to partner him.
Agger has been linked several times with Barcelona as they chase new additions in defence, but it may now be that Brondby will win the race for his signature as they emerge as surprise contenders to re-sign the 29-year-old.
It remains to be seen if Agger will accept dropping to a less competitive league, but he may also be tempted to return to the club where he first made a name for himself.
