Liverpool are the best team in the country right now, with Brendan Rodgers having inspired an incredible revival from his young players, who have risen from tenth to fifth since December, and are now back within touching distance of a top four spot.

Liverpool transfer news
Indeed, the Northern Irishman may well have set the Reds up for years to come! The likes of Sheyi Ojo, Jerome Sinclair, Lazar Markovic and Divock Origi are all unlucky to miss out on the side below, and would no doubt be among our substitutes.
But for the time being, here is our Liverpool dream team ahead of the 2016-17 season…
GK) Bernd Leno
Simon Mignolet has undergone something of a revival in the last couple of months, but we feel he lacks the quality to make the difference long-term. In contrast, the Bayer Leverkusen stopper has already proven himself as one of the best young keepers around.
RCB) Raphael Varane
Rumours have it that the Frenchman is unhappy at Real Madrid, and is already angling for a move to the Premier League. Chelsea and Manchester United have been linked in the past, but there’s no reason Liverpool can’t sneak in with a major bid.
CB) Martin Skrtel
Every team needs an elder statesmen to marshal the back-line, and while the Slovakian will be very much in the twilight years of his career by this stage, he should still be capable of helping the Reds’ charge towards the Premier League title.
LCB) Mamadou Sakho
It’s worth remembering that the Frenchman is still only 25, and will be at the peak of his career by the time we reach the 2016-17 season. The former Paris Saint Germain man has endured a slow start to his Reds career, but we think it’ll all prove worth it in the end.
