Reds have been tracking young Ghanaian for some time now.
Liverpool are on the verge of sealing a cut-price deal for FC Porto winger Christian Atsu, according to reports in the Guardian.
The exciting Ghana international has been at the Dragao now for only the past two seasons, although the 21-year-old did spend the 2011-12 campaign out on loan at fellow Portuguese outfit Rio Ave.
However, in the previous season the wide man returned to Oporto and enjoyed a fine campaign with the Portuguese giants, registering one goal and four assists in his 28 appearances in all competitions for Porto, including one strike and one assist in his 17 league contests for the club as they won the league.
As a result, Reds head coach Brendan Rodgers is understood to have been keeping close tabs on the wide man, who has been capped 16 times by his country since making his international debut last year, and is now set to follow up that interest with a firm offer for Atsu when the transfer window opens on July 1.
And the Merseyside giants feel they can snap up the youngster for as little as £3 million, with Atsu’s contract with Porto only running until June 30 2014.
