The Reds have been extremely active during the off-season and Brendan Rodgers’ summer shopping spree is showing no signs of letting up, with The Mirror reporting the Northern Irishman is interested in luring the 25-year-old to Anfield.
According to the report, the £13.5-rated centre-back also has interest from West Ham United and Newcastle, however the player’s agent Abdelkader Jilani has ruled out a move to the Hammers.
It seems Inter, AC Milan and Juventus have also been ruled out, with Jilani saying his player only wanted to move to England or Spain.
“We’ve never been contacted by Milan, or any Italian club,” Jilani said, via Calciomercato [translated by the Daily Mirror], “Abdennour wants to play in the Premier League or La Liga, not in Italy.
“The path leading to West Ham is closed. Would he consider Milan? No, because he doesn’t want to go to Italy. I repeat, England or Spain is his future.”
Abdennour was superb for Monaco during the side’s Champions League campaign last term and caught the eye with a number of excellent performances against some of Europe’s elite.
Rodgers could be looking to bolster his defence following Dejan Lovren’s poor debut season for the Reds.
