The 35-year-old has just one year remaining on his current deal with Juventus, but it is believed that he could move on this summer instead of seeing out his final season.
Chelsea have been reported as one of the clubs interested in snapping him up, but talkSPORT have cited Italian sources claiming the Reds are now very much in the race to finally bring him to the Premier League.
With the Reds looking desperately to replace club legend Steven Gerrard, who leaves for the United States at the end of the month, they could do no better than bringing one of the game’s greatest ever pass masters on board, even if only on a short term deal.
