Whilst the midfielder looked set to head to either Atletico Madrid or AC Milan, Liverpool and Galatasaray have shown late interest.
Liverpool are the latest side to show interest in signing Fiorentina’s midfield prodigy Adem Ljajic.
Reports from Italy, courtesy of TuttoMercato, suggest that the four clubs in contention for the Serbian’s signature are AC Milan, Atletico Madrid, Galatasaray and Liverpool.
It is also believed that AC Milan are the favourites, whilst Atletico are suspected to not have the required funds to offer an acceptable bid.
Fiorentina are seemingly resigned to losing their hottest prospect – club chairman Andrea Della Valle said after his team’s 1-0 Europa League victory over Grasshopper Zurich, “It will be hard for Ljajic to remain with us”.
Ljajic was a huge force behind his side’s fourth placed season last year, the midfielder finally coming of age to rack up an impressive 11 goals and eight assists in only 28 Serie A appearances.
This is not the first time Ljajic has been linked with a move to the Premier League. The player cam famously close with signing for Manchester United in a double-deal with his compatriot and Partizan Belgrade teammate Zoran Tosic. However where Tosic signed, United decided to pass on the Ljajic due to work permit fears.
Should Milan fail in their increasingly unlikely, long-running pursuit of Japanese international Keisuke Honda though, it would seem that Ljajic will be destined for the Rossoneri.
