Following their 3-0 annihilation of Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday, Liverpool fans have been dealt more good news, after their club was linked to excellent young Benfica forward Rodrigo by the Mirror.
The 23-year-old has developed massively from the nervous forward who spent a year on loan at Bolton in 2010/11, and is now regarded as one of the best players in the Portuguese league.
He can play either as a centre-forward, or as a wide-forward, where he’s given the licence to cut in from the left and shoot on his right foot or link up with the midfielders.
In all competitions this term, he’s scored ten goals in 17 starts, including one against Tottenham during an excellent Europa League performance last Thursday.
He’s rated at £25m, and Liverpool apparently have good contacts in Portugal after managing to secure a deal for Sporting Lisbon’s Tiago Ilori last summer.
Whether he’s worth that money is very debatable, but his talent is precocious and undeniable.
Liverpool currently have the excellent trio of Luis Suarez, Daniel Sturridge and Raheem Sterling deployed up top, but have very little in terms of backup from the bench.
Rodrigo then would undeniably strengthen the squad, which Liverpool need to do if they’re playing Champions League football next season.
