The Montenegro international has not managed to impress during his time at the Etihad Stadium, and now seems likely to make way at the end of this season after increased competition for places at the club.
City signed Wilfried Bony this January, leading to Jovetic being axed from Manuel Pellegrini’s Champions League squad, and Liverpool could now offer him an escape route from the club.
The 25-year-old impressed at his previous club Fiorentina and could benefit from another chance in the Premier League, with Brendan Rodgers’ side in the market for a new striker.
