Liverpool considering deal for impressive Southampton star.
Liverpool are watching Southampton playmaker Jay Rodriguez with a view to a summer transfer, according to the Daily Star.
The 23 year-old has shone under new Saints manager Mauricio Pochettino, with three goals and three assists in the eight matches since Pochettino took over.
His dribbling skills resulted in a tremendous solo strike against Liverpool last month, bursting through the Reds defence with laughable ease, and his goal and assist helped to seal a wonderful victory against the Reds.
Perhaps it is that performance that is sticking in Rodgers’ mind, and the Southampton player must have made quite the impression.
Rodriguez’s versatility is also a key asset that Rodgers might be interested in, and the Englishman is capable of playing on either flank and in central midfield, as well as an auxiliary forward.
Given that Liverpool are moving towards a heavy pressing game under Brendan Rodgers, Rodriguez’s high work rate and defensive contribution could be a fine attribute for the Reds too.
Having cost £7m when Southampton bought him from Burnley, Liverpool may have to pay more than that to entice Rodriguez to Anfield.
However, he could very well be worth the price.
