Reds to rival Barcelona for versatile Spurs ace.

Liverpool are reportedly set to join the race to sign Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen, according to CaughtOffside.
The Reds have identified the Belgian international as a good alternative to some of their other defensive targets, with the former Ajax man able to play comfortable at either centre-back or left-back.
With defence proving something of a weak point for the club last season, a top class addition such as Vertonghen could prove useful for Brendan Rodgers’ side, though Tottenham will no doubt be keen to avoid selling one of their star players to a Premier League rival.
Barcelona have also been linked with the 27-year-old in recent times, and may be the favourites to land him if the club do agree to sell, as they will likely prefer to see him move abroad.
With moves for the likes of Alberto Moreno and Ryan Bertrand failing to amount to anything, Vertonghen has now become Liverpool’s priority target in that area of the pitch, and will hope that their offer of Champions League football can put them in a good position to win the race for his signature.
