Mamadou Sakho has informed PSG that he wants to leave, alerting Liverpool and AC Milan…
Liverpool face a battle with AC Milan for the signature of PSG’s French international centre-back Mamadou Sakho, reports French sports publication L’equipe.
At 23-years-old, and with a World Cup looming, Sakho wants to be playing the first-team football PSG boss Laurent Blanc cannot guarantee him. With Thiago Silva widely regarded as the best centre-half in the world, and with the £27m Brazilian teenage signing Marquinhos sure to be given significant game time, Sakho has decided that he wants to move on.
And there will be no shortage of takers for the powerful defender. Liverpool are in desperate need of a centre-back following Jamie Carragher’s retirement, and the uncertain future of Martin Skrtel. L’equipe expects them to lodge a bid for Sakho this week, as Brendan Rodgers looks to strengthen his defence. Inexperienced Andre Wisdom played at centre-half for the Reds in a friendly defeat to Celtic this weekend, and he was out-muscled at the set-piece in which Liverpool conceded from.
Kolo Toure has arrived on a free transfer from Manchester City, and although he has impressed during pre-season, Rodgers wants to get in a longer-term partner for new vice-captain Daniel Agger.
Sakho would be happy to move to either Liverpool or AC Milan, as he told the media last month, and it could prove that whichever club moves fastest will be able to secure his signature.
“I am flattered by the interest of historic clubs like Liverpool and AC Milan. We will see what happens in the near future,” Sakho said last month, although it now appears he has made the decision to leave Paris.
He would command a figure around £10m, which both Liverpool and AC Milan would be more than happy to pay for the stopper who has bags of potential, but has yet to properly fulfil it.
