Newcastle United have joined the race for Monaco defender Aymen Abdennour, who has also been targeted by Liverpool.
According to The Metro, Newcastle are lining up a £15m bid for the centre-back.
The Tunisian international has emerged as one of the top defenders in Ligue 1, and he has become a relatively popular target for various clubs across Europe.
Barcelona, West Ham United and Aston Villa have all also been linked with Abdennour, however, Newcastle are believed to now be in pole position fr the player’s signature.
They have already made moderate splashes with the signings of striker Aleksandar Mitrovic and midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum.
The club spent approximately £27.5m and the Magpies appear to be prepared to make another relatively significant signing.
Newcastle lost its opening game of the Premier League season to Swansea and face a tough clash away to Machester United on Saturday.
