Liverpool supporters were pretty smug on Thursday after it was announced that Southampton and England right-back Nathaniel Clyne was on his way to Anfield for £12.5m.

Clyne, who was also wanted by Manchester United, was one of the finest defenders in the Premier League last season.
The 24-year-old is arguably a much better full-back than former Southampton teammate Luke Shaw, who cost Man United around £30m last summer.
After Clyne was confirmed as a Liverpool player, Reds fans took to Twitter to gloat.
Kopites were especially happy because Roberto Firmino – another United transfer target – opted for Anfield over Old Trafford just 24 hours earlier.
