The Reds are desperate to keep the England international at Anfield after his superb recent rise, though they are aware of interest from Real Madrid as the player stalls on extending his deal with the club.
Sterling only makes £1.5m a year on his current contract, which expires in over two years’ time, but his reluctance to sign an extension could pile more misery on the club after their difficult start to the season.
Liverpool are in poor form after losing Luis Suarez in the summer, and they won’t want to see another top performer leave Anfield anytime soon.
