According to the BBC, Liverpool have agreed a £29m fee in principle for the Hoffenheim star, who is currently on international duty with Brazil at the Copa America in Chile.
Reds chief Ian Ayre has flown to Chile to meet with Firmino and his representatives, with the aim of signing the 23-year-old to a five-year deal with the Merseyside club.
Firmino is expected to have agreed to personal terms with the Reds, but will need to be granted a work permit to play in the Premier League.
The former Figueirense man has scored 35 goals in 145 Bundesliga appearances since joining Hoffenheim in 2011.
He primarily plays as an attacking midfielder, but is equally adept out wide or up front.
Firmino’s versatility resulted in interest from a number of clubs – including Manchester United – but it now appears certain he will sign on the dotted line to join Brendan Rodgers’ side.
