Not content to sign just one major scoring threat this summer, Brendan Rodgers wants Marco Reus as well. Would Reus and Benteke be the best scoring duo in the Premier League?
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is determined to bring in Borussia Dortmund attacker Marco Reus to give a spark to his club, and he may be a lot closer to attaining that goal now.
According to the Metro, Liverpool have received a green light to move forward with a reported £46 million offer for the 26-year-old star. The news comes amidst a decision by Dortmund to pursue Reus’s replacement – Ajax attacking midfielder Davy Klaassen – and to “prepare for life without Reus.”
Reus has scored 11 or more total goals in each of his last five seasons and an equal number of league goals in four of those five. The former Borussia Dortmund Player of the Year also led Bundesliga in assists the year and won Champions League Team of the Season honors during the 2013-14 season.
Last week Liverpool signed former Aston Villa star striker Christian Benteke after paying for his £32.5 million release from Villa Park. But with the Reds’ leading scorer from last year Steven Gerrard retired, plus a distant 6th place finish on the Premier League table, the Reds seem to feel that they can spend their way into more of those much-needed goals this year.
