Liverpool have been given the all clear to sign Barcelona wing-back Martin Montoya after Dani Alves agreed to a new two-year deal with the La Liga giants, according to reports.

According to Metro, Liverpool have been close to finalising a deal for the 24-year-old after tabling a £7.3m offer to the Catalan club.
Barcelona’s transfer ban meant Luis Enrique was reluctant to sell Montoya, but the Brazilian’s new deal means Montoya could join the Reds as a replacement for Glen Johnson.
While not a starting player at Barcelona, Montoya has been a solid performer for the Catalan-based club and has made 43 league appearances since making his debut in 2011.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is looking to bolster his squad in the summer following a disappointing season, and Montoya could be an astute signing.
The Reds look destined to miss out on Champions League football next season despite coming close to winning the Premier League title last season.
