Belgium has expressed a desire to move on in his career this summer.
Ajax captain Toby Alderweireld has issued a come-and-get-me plea to Liverpool as the race to sign the highly-rated defender at the end of the season intensifies, reports insidefutbol.com.
The Belgium international has a contract with the Eredivisie champions that runs only until the end of June 2014 and so his employers in the Netherlands are keen to offload the centre back when the transfer window reopens for business on 1 June, rather than risk losing the player for free next year.
Alderweireld, 24, has enjoyed an outstanding campaign at the heart of the Dutch giants’ back four, featuring in 32 league matches so far and scoring two goals in the process, while in all competitions the defender has played in 44 games, scoring four times.
And with Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers known to be on the look-out at present for a new central defender to replace the retiring veteran Jamie Carragher in the Reds’ back four next season, it looks like Alderweireld could very well be that man.
