Reds desperate to add classy attacker…
Liverpool have approached Brazilian club Atletico Mineiro over a £20m deal for highly rated attacking midfielder Bernard, according to The Telegraph.
The player has a £20m release clause, but Liverpool would do brilliantly to sign him as he is wanted by a whole host of Champions League sides, including Porto – who have a fantastic record of developing young South American talent.
Bernard has been mentored at the club by two-time Ballon D’or winner Ronaldinho at Mineiro, and his outstanding development has not gone unnoticed – earning him five caps for El Selecao already.
At 5ft. 4″, detractors would suggest that his slight frame would struggle to adapt to the physicality of the Premier League. Bernard however, is lightning fast and has fantastic close control. His height actually enables him to change direction with the ball at his feet, almost at will.
At just 20-years-old, he would be a great coup for the Premier League, and especially for Liverpool. Brendan Rodgers has stated that he wants to sign first team players, and Bernard would definitely fit this mould.
Perhaps Rodgers has been encouraged to look for more Brazilian talent after the success of January signing Coutinho at Anfield. Reds fans would be excited to see the two combine next season in the attacking midfield roles.
Here’s how Liverpool could line up next year with Bernard in the side, if they sell want away forward Luis Suarez:
