Italian journalist Tancredi Palmeri has revealed that Liverpool have been “working intensely” in an attempt to sign versatile Borussia Dortmund attacker Marco Reus.
Germany star Reus, who has 25 senior international caps to his name, has also been linked with interest from Arsenal and Real Madrid this year.
Arsenal are unlikely to move for a player who is valued at around £46m, but Real remain on the scene.
Palmeri, who writes for Gazzetta dello Sport, says that Reus would prefer joining Real over Liverpool.
However, Anfield chiefs are yet to give up on the 26-year-old, who can play as an attacking midfielder, on the wing or up front.
