The CSKA Moscow forward is hot property at the moment, and is seen as one of the only top quality forwards available at the moment who wouldn’t cost a small fortune.
Daniel Sturridge has spent most of this season sidelined with injury, while the £16m signing of Mario Balotelli has been nothing short of a disaster.
This has left Rodgers badly needing another option up front, and it seems the Merseyside manager has identified Doumbia as that option.
CSKA are looking to tie the Ivorian down to a long term contract, with his current deal expiring in 18 months. Liverpool are looking to pounce however, and a sizeable bid may leave the Russian club with no option but to sell.
Ex-Moscow coach Valery Gazzaev certainly believes Doumbia has all the required attributes to succeed in the Premier League.
“Suarez has really become an important loss for Liverpool. The club’s current performances show how important the Uruguayan was,” he said.
“Therefore the management of Liverpool is now actively looking for a striker who can score and lead the attack, which is one of Doumbia’s best attributes.
“I think Seydou could be one of the best strikers in the Premier League.”
