Serie A giants AS Roma are eyeing a deal to sign Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho, according to reports.
Sakho joined the Reds from Paris Saint-Germain in an £18m deal in 2013, but has struggled to nail down a first-team spot under Brendan Rodgers.
According to Calciomercato [via Daily Express], Roma have made Sakho its top transfer target for the remainder of the transfer window with manager Rudi Garcia looking to strengthen defensively following the departure of Alessio Romagnoli.
Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa also looks likely to move away from the Stadio Olimpico, with Ligue 1 giants Lyon keen on signing the former Newcastle United man.
Sakho watched Liverpool’s opening day win over Stoke City on the bench, with Rodgers preferring the partnership of Martin Skrtel and Dejan Lovren in the centre of the Reds’ defence.
The report suggests Rodgers is desperate to keep hold of Sakho, and Roma may turn its attentions to Lyon defender Samuel Utiti should the Italian side be unsuccessful in its chase of the Frenchman.
