Liverpool transfer gossip: Klopp wants Kop job and Reds hopeful over Premier League striker
The 21-year-old is being pursued by Liverpool, despite him rejecting one of their initial offers.
The Reds have offered him a £10m bid, according to ESPN FC. Liverpool is searching heavily for a midfielder to bolster their depth and replace Premier League legend Steven Gerrard.
Gerrard has left the club after spending 17 seasons with them, and he has signed with the Los Angeles Galaxy.
Kovacic scored five goals in 34 appearances for Inter Milan this season, and Liverpool is hoping to take advantage of the fact that they will not qualify for Europe next season.
Meanwhile, Liverpool is looking to rebound from a disappointing ending that nearly cost manager Brendan Rodgers his job.
The end of the Reds’ 2014-15 season consisted of them falling to sixth place due to a 6-1 blowout loss to Stoke City.
Although Kovacic is already signed to a contract that runs until 2019 with Inter Milan, Liverpool is prepared to offer him a deal of their own.
Although Gerrard will be nearly impossible to completely replace, Liverpool seems to view Kovacic as a potential long-term replacement and star player.
