The Reds finished in a disappointing sixth place in the Premier League last season, and they are recruiting aggressively in the transfer market as a result.
According to The Metro, a proven goalscorer remains Brendan Rodgers’ priority and Gomez has been just that over the years.
However, he only managed seven goals in Serie A matches over the last two seasons for Fiorentina.
The 28-year-old still has pedigree though, as he has scored 166 goals in 308 career appearances, including a career-high 28 for Bayern Munich in the 2010-11 season.
As a result of his regression, the German international saw his playing time become more limited in his time with Fiorentina, who finished in fourth place in the Serie A standings.
