Reds ahead of arch rivals Manchester United in pursuit of Barcelona man.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers will possibly make 25-year old Barcelona forward Alexis Sanchez his top target of the summer, and has decided to offer a princely sum of £27 million for securing his services, reports the Metro.
Rodgers is keen to bolster nearly all areas of his squad in preparation for the Champions League next season, and sees the Chilean international as one who could add more bite to his already beefed up strike force.
Barcelona are keen to sell the out of favour winger as their new boss Luis Enrique looks to make his own mark on the Catalans, and the Reds are now in pole position to get their man.
Liverpool’s arch rivals Manchester United are also said to be interested in the speedy forward, but Sanchez’s preference for a Champions League side means that the Red Devils could miss out on another of their prime transfer targets.
Liverpool might need to move fast though as Sanchez has had a terrific start to the World Cup and more blistering performances by the Chilean international could send his market price soaring.
