The Zenit St Petersburg boss was tipped as an up and coming young manager, and made a massive move to Chelsea in 2011. His time at the West London club was an unmitigated disaster however, and he was soon shipped out and taken on by Tottenham.
He didn’t fare much better in North London though, and after a single season made the switch to the Russian league.
Brendan Rodgers is in a precarious position at the moment however, with Liverpool starting the season terribly and finding themselves 9th in the Premier League with 15 games played.
Danny Murphy believes that even if Rodgers is sacked however, that Villas-Boas would be the last manager that Liverpool would replace him with.
“Brendan deserves to keep his job,” he said.
“It would be a shock if he does go.
“If for some reason he does, AVB would not be on the list of 20 managers to replace him at Liverpool, never mind be the number one.
“It’s ridiculous. He failed at Chelsea, he failed at Tottenham. Why would you take him at Liverpool?”
