Ex-Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has slammed former manager Brendan Rodgers for signing enigmatic Italian striker Mario Balotelli.
Balotelli moved to Anfield last summer and has struggled to make an impact with the Reds, scoring just once in 16 Premier League appearances in his debut season with the Merseyside club.
The 25-year-old has been left out of all three of Liverpool’s league matches this season and has reportedly been frozen out of the first-team setup by Rodgers.
Reds legend Carragher is certainly not a fan of the former Manchester City man, saying it was a huge error to sign the controversial striker in the first place.
“The Balotelli signing was a major mistake from the whole club,” Carragher told Sky Sports, as reported by Daily Express.
“He (Rodgers) has got Benteke and Sturridge to come back. I still can’t believe he signed him, but it hasn’t worked out and he’s going to move.
“He’s kidded some coaches if he’s got another move this time to AC Milan.
“Where’s the evidence of his quality?!””
Balotelli looks set to exit Anfield this summer, with a loan move back to AC Milan looking likely.
