Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler has insisted that Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke would be “perfect” for the Anfield club if they can sign him.

Benteke has long been linked with an exit from Villa Park, but Tim Sherwood has managed to keep hold of him so far this summer.
The club have insisted that they will not sell for anything less than the £32.5m release clause in the Belgian’s contract, but that hasn’t put Fowler off from wanting his former club to sign the striker.
“The striker issue is a big thing,” Fowler told the Liverpool Echo.
“We didn’t have anyone who scored 10 Premier League goals last year and I can’t remember the last time that happened at Liverpool.
“It’s important we get a proven goalscorer and of the names being bandied about I’d go for Benteke. I think he’s excellent.”
Benteke has scored 49 goals in 101 appearances for Villa since joining the club from Genk in 2012, although he was sidelined for six months last year after sustaining a ruptured Achilles.
Sherwood has warned his prolific striker that leaving Villa Park wouldn’t guarantee him success given that their style of play suits him, but a move to Liverpool could be hard to turn down.
Meanwhile, there has been interest in Benteke from around Europe, and so the Belgian international won’t be short of options to consider.
