Reds are desperate to find a long-term successor to the now retired Carragher.
Liverpool are keen on signing highly-rated young Schalke 04 defender Kyriakos Papadopoulos this summer, reports the Daily Mirror.
The Greece international, 21, is currently one of the most sought-after central defenders plying their trade on the Continent, having being capped on 16 occasions already by his country since making his international debut two years ago, during which time Papadopoulos has found the back of the net four times.
And with Reds head coach Brendan Rodgers known to be on the look-out at present for a new centre back to replace veteran Jamie Carragher at the back for the Merseysiders at Anfield next campaign, the Greek could be just the man to fill the Scouser’s large shoes.
Papadopoulos moved to the Bundesliga giants three years ago from Greek giants Olympiacos, during which time he has made 92 appearances in all competitions for the German side, scoring seven goals in the process.
