Young Englishman is attracting attention of the Merseyside giants.
Liverpool are interested in bringing highly-rated young Reading keeper Alex McCarthy to Anfield at the end of the season, reports the Daily Star.
The 23-year-old shot stopper turned in one of the greatest goalkeeping displays ever seen in the history of the Premier League, making eleven saves and keeping a clean sheet as the Royals held the Reds to a goalless draw at the Madejski stadium last Saturday afternoon.
And now it appears as though Liverpool head coach Brendan Rodgers has been so impressed by the England Under-21 international’s man-of-the-match performance between the sticks, in which McCarthy made at least ten world-class stops to deny the visitors all three points, that he now wants to sign the player himself.
Saturday was actually McCarthy’s first game back since he suffered a shoulder injury playing against Queens Park Rangers last November and with a contract at Reading until 2015, the keeper would not be expected to cost Liverpool more than £2 million.
