Liverpool may look to offload Spanish left-back Alberto Moreno before the end of the summer window, reports suggest.
Moreno struggled during his first season with the Reds following his £12m arrival from La Liga heavyweights Sevilla, and his position now looks to be under threat from impressive youngster Joe Gomez.
According to The Mirror, Brendan Rodgers is not convinced by Moreno’s defensive abilities and could look to sell the player before the end of the month to ensure he can sign a replacement.
18-year-old Gomez looks to have leapfrogged Moreno in the pecking order at Anfield and looks likely to start in Liverpool’s opening day fixture against Stoke City on Saturday.
Gomez signed on £3.5m deal from Charlton Athletic last month and started against HJK Helsinki on the weekend in what looked to be a first-choice defence used by Rodgers.
Moreno struggled to nail down a spot in Rodgers’ side last season and has been linked with a shock move to La Liga giants Barcelona.
The Mirror’s report suggests a return to Sevilla is more likely, although Serie A side Roma are also understood to be showing interest in the 23-year-old.
