Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly in the lead against Liverpool in a bidding war for Atletico Madrid striker Mario Mandzukic.
According to Shoot, Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone is willing to collect on Mandzukic after one season with the club that included 20 goals in just 42 appearances between La Liga, Copa Del Ray, Europe and others. The Croatian stud has scored 20 goals in each of the last three seasons dating back to his two years with Bayern Munich.
Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly looking to give star striker Harry Kane some much needed assistance from a proven goal-scorer after the club finished 5th on the Premier League table and clinched yet another appearance in the Europa League.
With a price tag of approximately £35 million, the Spurs will have to fight tooth and nail with Liverpool, who are looking to jump back into contention after a disastrous finish to the 2014-15 season. The Reds are going to try and make a splash in the transfer period both to shore up the defense which let them down and to find a suitable replacement for the retiring Steven Gerrard.
