Clyne was yet again impressive for the Saints this season and has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United.
According to Metro however, Liverpool are aiming to do battle with United over Clyne’s signature after submitting a £10m offer for the youngster’s services.
The Reds’ initial bid is reported to have been rejected, but it is understood the five-time European champions will put forward a second bid to sign the England international.
Metro’s report suggests Southampton value the 24-year-old at £18m, and Liverpool will have to dig significantly deeper into its coffers to lure Clyne to Anfield.
Clyne’s solid performances in the Premier League resulted in an England call-up during the EURO 2016 qualifiers against San Marino and Estonia, however he was handed his debut in a home qualifier against Slovenia last November.
