Bid comes just one day after Shaqiri refuted transfer talks with the Reds.
Just one day after Bayern Munich playmaker Xherdan Shaqiri stated on his facebook page that he was not in transfer negotiations of any kind, Liverpool have been reported to have made a £14.2 million offer for the 22-year old.
The Daily Star reports that although the Reds’ bid for the Swiss ace has not been accepted, a deal could be possible as Liverpool have come close to Bayern’s valuation.
Shaqiri emerged as a target for Brendan Rodgers quite a while ago, and after an impressive performance at the 2014 World Cup for his nation, it is only natural that the out of favour midfielder is attracting interest from top European sides.
AS Roma and Juventus are also believed to be keen on the former FC Basel starlet, but the Reds seem to have marched ahead in the chase with their official bid.
Rodgers is not hesitating to splash the cash on a number of signings this summer, and he clearly feels that Shaqiri could add more value to his already packed midfield.
The Northern Irishman is preparing his side to face the rigours of the Champions League this season and Shaqiri’s past experience in the tournament could come in very handy for a young Liverpool side.
