Liverpool make an official bid for Sunderland’s Simon Mignolet as a Pepe Reina nears Anfield exit.
Liverpool have offered £8m for Sunderland goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, as they look to bring in a quality goalkeeper should Pepe Reina leave this summer, according to the Daily Mail.
The Black Cats however are reprotedly looking for a fee closer to £10m but the north-east outfit expect to reach a compromise with the Reds in the coming days.
Mignolet has long been linked with a move away from the Stadium of Light, and Brendan Rodgers sees the Belgium international as long-term replacement to Pepe Reina, who has been linked with a move Barcelona to replace Victor Valdes.
The 24-year old Sunderland goalkeeper had a stellar season between the sticks this term, keeping 11 clean sheets, despite the side’s 17th place finish. The potential Mignolet has shown at both club and international level is the reason for the strong interest from Liverpool, and also attracted interest from Arsenal, who are looking to bring in a challenger to Wojciech Szczesny next season.
The Belgian would become the third signing for Brendan Rodgers this summer, having already brought in Iago Aspas and Kolo Toure this month, as the Merseyside club continue to rebuild ahead of the new season.
