All signs have pointed to Sterling being unhappy with his current place in his career, and it was even reported that he would refuse an offer worth £900,000 per week.
Aidy Ward, Sterling’s representative, later denied these claims.
Although Sterling’s future with Liverpool looks bleak, teammate Jordan Henderson refuses to give up on the disgruntled midfielder.
“He’s obviously left [his future] to whoever’s representing him in regards to what he wants to do. But for me Raheem Sterling is a fantastic player and he’s been brilliant for England, I hope he will stay at Liverpool,” the 24-year-old said to ESPN FC.
Manchester City is heavily pursuing Sterling, and signing someone of his youth and upside would be huge for a team that is looking to return to being Premier League champions.
Sterling scored seven goals for Liverpool in the 2014-15 season while making 34 starts, but he appears to have worn out his welcome with the fans as they jeered him in their humiliating 6-1 loss to Stoke City, which ended the season.
He is expected to be even better as he ages and gains experience, and his play will likely be even more dangerous for opposing teams if he is happy.
