The Red want Adam Lallana, but will Southampton sell…?

Liverpool have been dealt a blow in their ongoing pursuit of Southampton midfielder Adam Lallana, reports the Liverpool Echo.
The 26-year-old has already been the subject of a £20m bid from Brendan Rodgers’ men, but the Saints rejected it out of hand, hoping to get more capital for their increasingly improving midfield dynamo.
Now, it seems as though the boyhood Evertonian’s move to Anfield will be further scuppered by his parent club’s refusal to let him discuss anything right now.
In the Premier League last term alone, Lallana bagged nine, adding another in the FA Cup for good measure, and establishing himself as one of the most exciting players in the top light.
Due to a 25% sell-on-fee inserted into Lallana’s contract with Bournemouth when he was a youngster, the Championship outfit will receive a large sum of any potential fee, meaning Southampton are only holding out for the very top dollar.
Anything over £20m seems very steep for a player who has only really had one truly successful Premier League season – but due to the player’s age, his crazy talent and his level head, the Liverpool board could be ready to take a punt on him.
(Liverpool have shown with their acquisition of Andy Carroll and Stewart Downing in recent seasons that they’re more than capable of throwing a goal into the net in regards to overpriced transfers!)
Lallana’s form (he scored nine and assisted seven in the top flight last term) earned him a spot in Roy Hodgson’s England World Cup squad for this summer.
The Englishman could happily slot into Liverpool’s midfield ahead of the anchoring Steven Gerrard and the box-to-box Jordan Henderson, potentially injecting both goals and creativity into a currently static lineup.
