Liverpool’s £7m Spanish star reckons his side can win the league…
Liverpool summer signing Iago Aspas thinks his new club are good enough to win a first Premier League title, reports the Mirror.
The 25-year-old cost the Reds £7m for Celta Vigo, and although he hasn’t scored yet, he has helped his side win their opening three Premier League matches.
“It is certainly not madness to aspire to winning the title this season,” Aspas boldly said.
Liverpool fans would be absolutely delighted with a fourth place finish, but winning the league is virtually unthinkable for most supporters.
Aspas will likely start against Swansea on Monday evening, but will have work to do to retain his starting spot when Luis Suarez returns from suspension in two games’ time. Aspas currently plays from the left, with Daniel Sturridge the focal point, but Suarez will likely take this spot.
Undeterred, Aspas is still getting used to life in England.
“I am still at the stage where I am adapting in Liverpool to the clothes and the food,” he added.
“But the people here relate to football and music, and for me it is a pleasure to live this experience.
“I always dreamed of playing for a big club, and Liverpool are known all over the world.”
Where Aspas wins no prizes for his technical ability, his work-rate and fighting spirit makes him a formidable opponent when he’s at his best.
His manager Brendan Rodgers will hope he’s at his best for the trip to old his side Swansea, where Liverpool will regain top spot if they pick up the three points.
