If Liverpool miss out on the top four this season, Premier League title contenders Manchester City could try and snatch Slovakian centre-back Martin Skrtel, reports the Daily Mail.
One of City’s main problem areas has been at centre-half this season. While club captain Vincent Kompany is an automatic starter when fit, ageing Martin Demichelis has been much criticised for his complete lack of pace, youngster Matija Nastasic still lacks experience, and Joleon Lescott will leave at the end of the season when his contract expires.
As a result, Chilean boss Manuel Pellegrini will be desperate to strengthen his central defence come the end of the season, and few have performed better than Liverpool’s powerful centre-back in the Premier League this term.
The 29-year-old has scored four goals, has completed a very impressive 90.6% of his passes, and been an ever present in Liverpool’s push for a Champions League finish.
Manager Brendan Rodgers will no doubt be keen to keep hold of Skrtel, so City would likely have to pay an inflated fee to snare the defender from their rivals.
