Liverpool are close to completing the signing of AC Milan striker Mario Balotelli for a cut-price fee of just £14m, with the player set to take Luis Suarez’s number 7 shirt at Anfield, according to CaughtOffside.
The Reds’ spending has now reached the £100m mark after a busy summer which also saw £75m come in from the sale of star player Suarez to Barcelona.
Balotelli, who has also been linked with Arsenal at points in this transfer window, has emerged as Brendan Rodgers’ ideal replacement for Suarez in the last few days, and it is now claimed that a deal could be close to being announced, with a fee agreed between the two clubs and the player accepting personal terms to complete the move.
The 23-year-old just needs to undergo a medical at Anfield and put the final seal on the transfer, which could go down as one of the bargains of the whole summer if he can fulfill his tremendous potential.
Liverpool have already spent big on the likes of Adam Lallana, Lazar Markovic and Dejan Loven as they build a new-look side for the 2014/15 season.
