The Italian has struggled to make an impact with the Bundesliga side, hitting the back of the net just three times in 17 matches since joining the club from Torino in 2014.
Despite his lack of goalscoring form in Germany, The Metro reports Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is keen on signing the 25-year-old as he searches for a new centre-forward.
According to The Metro, Rogers is likely to be handed a hefty transfer kitty over the off-season but it’s likely the Reds will have to fork out upwards of £17m to sign the Italy international.
Immobile joined Dortmund in the summer following a stellar season Torino where he was the Serie A’s top goalscorer with 22 goals in 33 matches.
The attacker has just one goal in 11 appearances for Italy, but his direct style of play could see him become an able replacement for disappointing summer signings Balotelli and Rickie Lambert.
