Brendan Rodgers hopes to steal Arouna Kone from under the nose of Roberto Martinez this summer.
Liverpool are planning an audacious bid to sign Wigan Athletic striker Arouna Kone, despite Roberto Martinez looking to bring his former striker to new team Everton.
The 29-year old striker was one of few bright spots on the Wigan side last season, and Liverpool are considering a bid for the player should Luis Suarez leave the club before next season according to the Metro.
With Daniel Sturridge touch and go for the beginning of next season with an ankle injury, and Luis Suarez looking to leave the club soon, Rodgers is facing a striker crisis at Anfield this summer, and has highlighted the Ivory Coast international as a suitable replacement.
The FA Cup winner has a £6.5m release clause at Wigan, and Liverpool may be willing to pay the fee to rectify their current situation.
The club are also on the verge of completing an £8m deal with Celta Vigo for winger Iago Aspas, as Rodgers looks to improve the Reds’ attacking options in their bid for UEFA Champions League or Europa League qualification next season.
