Liverpool and England captain Steven Gerrard doesn’t want his wife Alex and his three children to travel to Brazil for this summer’s World Cup, reports the Daily Star.
The 33-year-old thinks she will ruin his focus, like she did back in 2006 when England crashed out on penalties to Portugal.
“I thought it was bit of a distraction in 2006,” said the legendary skipper.
“So in 2010, when I set off for the World Cup, I preferred for my family to be away from me and I could focus on trying to get my form right. I will doing the same again in Brazil.”
He did admit though that every player has the right to bring their partners, if it makes them feel more comfortable during the tournament.
“I think the players are down to make the decisions themselves if they want their families over there.” Gerrard said.
“For me, my own personal choice is that I don’t like my family there when the tournament is on.”
Barring injury, Gerrard will lead his side out against Italy on the 14th of June, dreaming of leading England to their first World Cup triumph since 1966.
