Liverpool’s skipper was too busy trying to win the midfield battle – which the Reds comprehensively lost – that he was unable to make much of an attacking impact.
CM: Emre Can – 7/10
Broke the deadlock with a lucky deflected shot from long range on nine minutes. Remained on the pitch for a further hour and did reasonably well, before Joe Allen took his place.
AM: Jordan Henderson – 5/10
Misplaced far too many passes.
