Liverpool suffered a second successive loss in the Premier League as they went down 3-1 to rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford this evening.
After a tedious first half, Daley Blind gave the hosts the lead following a well-worked set piece, and Ander Herrera doubled United’s advantage from the penalty spot after being fouled by Joe Gomez.
Christian Benteke briefly resurrected Liverpool’s hopes with a wonderful overhead kick on 84 minutes, but Anthony Martial, a £36m signing from AS Monaco on transfer deadline day, as BBC Sport reports, came off the bench to mark his debut with a memorable goal which sealed United victory.

GK: Simon Mignolet – 6/10
Gifted Marouane Fellaini an early chance with a poor kick, but made a couple of confident catches. He stood little chance with the goals, and the nature of the game meant that he had few other saves to make.
RB: Nathaniel Clyne – 6/10
Had to use every bit of his rapid pace to contend with the double threat of Luke Shaw and Memphis Depay in the first half. Conceded the free-kick from which the Red Devils opened the scoring.
CB: Martin Skrtel – 5/10
As the leader of this Reds defence, Skrtel must take some responsibility for not organising his troops for the set piece from which Blind scored. Will not be pleased by his role in Martial’s goal either.
CB: Dejan Lovren – 5/10
Made a couple of clumsy challenges, but nothing approaching the calamity of the 3-0 West Ham United defeat a fortnight ago. May have done, though, had Fellaini isolated himself against the Croatian.
LB: Joe Gomez – 6/10
Was pretty solid in the first hour, but endured a tricky 10-minute spell in which his inexperience showed as he gave the ball away a couple of times and conceded a penalty for a reckless tackle on Herrera.
