How the Reds rated on a nervy night at Anfield.
Liverpool secured victory over Sunderland in their midweek Premier League fixture to jump back to second in the table and keep the pressure on leaders Chelsea.
It was less of a convincing win than Reds fans have become used to of late, but goals from Steven Gerrard and Daniel Sturridge eventually secured another three points for Brendan Rodgers.
Here’s how the home side rated at Anfield.
Simon Mignolet – 6
Hardly a performance to reassure supporters that it was right to let Pepe Reina leave to be replaced by the Belgian, but did make a fine save to deny Connor Wickham in the first half.
Glen Johnson – 6
A better defensive display from the England international, who was probably among those reprimanded by Rodgers after conceding three to Cardiff City at the weekend – Johnson’s attacking prowess suffered as a result though.
Martin Skrtel – 6
After bagging two goals in a thriller against the Bluebirds on Saturday, this was back to basics in defence for the centre-back, who looked comfortable at all times.
Daniel Agger – 7
A fine display from the Dane who appears to have put problems earlier this season behind him and Mamadou Sakho could have problem getting back in the starting XI at this rate.
Jon Flanagan – 6
What a campaign it has been for this young full-back, who either on the right or left side (like tonight) looks good and broke forward with pace and skill against the Black Cats.
