Mourinho’s defensive tactics worked a treat as visitors won 2-0…
Here’s how we rated the Liverpool players from today’s defeat at home to Chelsea…
Manager: Brendan Rodgers – 5/10
If Rodgers was guilty of anything today, it was not having enough options from the bench, and not having a Plan B. Sturridge came on and was clearly not 100% fit, and Aspas came on and was pretty woeful. While the Reds totally dominated possession; at times, they looked bereft of ideas – and Rodgers doesn’t have the kind of squad where he can bring on more physical forwards, and play more directly.
GK) Simon Mignolet – 7/10
The Belgian keeper wasn’t at fault for either of the goals, and did make some good saves in both the first and the second half.
DR) Glen Johnson – 6/10
Constantly made foraging runs into the Chelsea area, before he cut inside and linked up with the central midfielders. If he stayed on his wing, Liverpool might have had another offensive option, as their attacks were far too narrow.
DC) Martin Skrtel – 6/10
Won nearly every header, and marshalled the Liverpool defence well. He can’t be blamed for the two random defensive errors that ultimately cost his side the game.
