Showed flashes of his promise and always looked the most likely to offer Liverpool something different in breaking the opposition down. Created with his pace and neat footwork, could be a starter on the opening day.

Adam Lallana – 6/10

Part of the issue for the Reds during the game in terms of their lack of cutting edge in the final third.

Danny Ings – 7/10

Worked hard before being substituted on the hour mark, but will be disappointed not to have found the net despite his sharp movement. Replaced by Divock Origi who was able to break the deadlock from close range.
