Premier League side will contest a pre-season friendly against Melbourne Victory at the famous cricket venue on Wednesday.
Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler says it is the perfect fit for his former club to play at the “iconic” Melbourne Cricket Ground.
The Reds play Melbourne Victory at the famed cricket venue on Wednesday night in the the second match of their pre-season tour of Asia and a sell-out crowd of over 90,000 is expected to watch the two sides in action.
Fowler has a foot in both camps having scored 183 goals in 369 games across two spells with his hometown club as well as turning out for A-League sides North Queensland Fury and Perth Glory later in his career.
And in a Q&A with the Herald Sun the 38-year-old says he fully comprehends what it means fill every seat in the MCG, believing it to be a once in a lifetime experience for the players on both teams to run out on to the hallowed turf.
“You know what I love about that? The fact that Liverpool is such an iconic club playing in probably one of the most iconic stadiums, not in Australia, but in the world,” he said.
“I think it’s a perfect fit. It will be crazy, and I don’t mean that in a derogatory way, the atmosphere and the passion will be phenomenal.
“Not many people get to play football on the cricket ground, the MCG, and I really just wish I was playing again so I could go sample it.
“But I think it’s going to be a special night.”
